Her turn

After Cheryl left Columbus, Lacy noticed the change in Ben. Just as she had hoped, he was more confident and seemed relaxed. He was jovial, making silly jokes, and very amorous. They made love at least once a day and more so on weekends.

“What’s come over you?” she asked him after they had fucked standing in the kitchen.

“I had an epiphany,” he replied.

“A what?”

“You know, a realization, a sudden understanding of something….”

“I know what an epiphany is, Ben,” she said, pouring a cup of coffee.

“Well, I had one.”

“Did Cheryl have anything to do with that?”

“Not exactly.”

“Care to explain?” she said, passing him a cup.

“What’s wrong with us, Lace?” he said, taking a sip.

He had been calling her Lace instead of Lacy lately – a cute term of endearment as no one else called her that, and he only did it when they were talking to each other. She was Lacy to everyone else.

“Well, we just did something to spice up our sex life….”

“No, I mean the coffee,” he cut her off. “Do you realize how much we drink? We drink it all the time.”

“Is this part of your epiphany thing?” she smirked.

They did drink a lot of coffee, but that was not what Lacy wanted to talk about. Why was he so… bubbly?

“No,” he said, taking her hand and having her sit on his lap. “I was in my group session for my PTS. You know Tuesdays.”

“Yeah, yeah… go on.”

“I was listening to all the guys about our problems and stuff, and my mind drifted. Ok, so I had my ball cut off, and I can’t have kids. But we have jobs, money. We are young and healthy… well, yes, we are.”

Lacy felt a “but” coming on as he continued.

“I have you, and Ross and Cheryl are still our friends. And there is more Lacy.”

“More?”

“There are guys at the group with some serious issues. Survivor’s guilt, flashbacks of horrible scenes, all of it. Most of it is much worse than mine, Lacy. I just…”

Ben smiled.

“I just don’t want to spend the rest of my life, our lives, feeling sorry for myself for this or that. I’m lucky to be alive.”

“I’m glad you feel this way, babe,” Lacy said. “You sure it wasn’t Cheryl’s pussy that did that?”

“Cheryl was a nice distraction, and I should thank you for that. But it was you Lacy. You haven’t given up on me. It’s about time I stopped giving up on myself. Do you understand?”

Lacy nodded, glad her husband was finally coming out of his morass. He had told her the story of him and Ross fighting the guy in the room in Iraq. Ben’s therapist had explained how traumatic events played over and over in the minds of vets who had been through them. Many such memories were worse for others than Ben.

“Imagine taking fire from a line of buildings,” the therapist had said. “You return the fire and eventually take control of the buildings. Then you find dead civilians. And you wonder, did I kill them? Did my bullets do that?

“Or a soldier has to reload. His buddy, maybe his best friend, steps up to shoot in his place and gets hit and dies. The soldier reloading has to live, wondering if his reloading is the cause of his friend dying. Was I too slow getting back in the fight? And what if he took a breather during the firefight and knew he was slacking off. You see, Mrs. Mathews, there are worse combat experiences for your husband to have.”

She was glad that Ben was finally getting his act together. As the therapist had told him, there is no forgetting or ignoring. One has to face their demon, accept it and learn to live with it instead of against it. She was glad it was Ben’s time to move on.

But still, there would be no children, which she knew Ben wanted. Kids she wanted to have herself as well. Some people are kid-people, and some are not. Lacy knew that she and Ben were kid-people. Like some people like coffee and some don’t. They liked coffee and kids… and sex. They loved sex.

“Fair is fair, Lace,” Ben said one day as they cleaned the table after dinner.

“Excuse me?”

“Your hall pass,” Ben continued. bursa escort “I had mine. It’s your turn to have yours.”

“What brought this on?”

Ben had thought a lot about this. He owed his wife a promise. And if he didn’t step up and remind her, she would hold back.

“You don’t have to baby me, Lace. I’m fine. I won’t break.”

Lacy had been thinking about Ross for some time, but it was but a side fantasy. Something to think about during sex or when masturbating to get off. And Ben was right. He had his fun with Cheryl. Why not her with Ross.

“Are you sure about this, babe?” she asked, trying not to sound eager.

“I just got an email from Ross today,” Ben said to Lacy as she got done getting ready for bed.

“Oh, what does he say?” Lacy replied, trying to hide her excitement.

“He is working out of Alaska these days. He said he has some time off and wants to see us.”

Lacy stayed quiet, not sure how to approach the subject.

“Look, Lace,” Ben said. “I appreciate that you gave me a threesome as well as a hall pass. But a three-way with another guy? That’s not me. Is that like a bucket list thing for you?”

“No,” Lacy said, relieved.

She wanted a shot at Ross Jorgensen, but not with Ben. It was one of the main reasons why she had been putting it off. Lacy was glad Ben didn’t want to be there.

“Ben, you said he was the only guy you would trust with me. But I’m worried that it will put a wall between you two. I mean, you guys still email and call each other after all this time.”

“Ross is the brother I never had. More than that.”

“I know. It’s why I’m a bit hesitant to go through with it.”

“Lace, if you decide not to, do so for reasons of your own. Please don’t do it on my account. Sooner or later, you will resent me for it.”

She just looked back at him with trepidation, afraid to say anything to betray her wants.

“Ben,” she said as she walked to the kitchen and stopped as not to face him as she spoke. “If, and I say if this happens, I want to make sure you are OK with it.”

“I can’t believe I’m saying this. How do I convince you?”

“Call him, tell him about our hall pass pact and that you are OK with him and me getting together. Then have him call me to confirm. I’ll take it from there.”

‘There,’ she thought. It’s out in the open. ‘Holy hell, this is happening.’

“Is that all?”

“No, that will suffice, Ben. Thank you.”

Ben sat back, wondering if he and Lacy were crazy to go where they were going with their relationship. But thinking of how he had enjoyed Cheryl’s charms for an entire weekend with Lacy joining them for a threesome no less, how could he say no to her.

‘I already can’t give her children,’ Ben thought. ‘Holding her back from a hall pass… when I already had one would be beyond selfish. Lacy would never forgive me. If she didn’t leave me.’

He stared at his phone and wondered what time it was in Alaska.

***

Ben chickened out and sent an email instead, giving himself the excuse he was still in recovery. Plus, an email was proof he had made contact with Ross.

“Hey, Ross, “I won’t beat about the bush…”

‘No, that’s stupid,’ Ben thought and began again. Then stopped and called.

The phone rang twice before Ross picked up.

“Hey Bud, the world of accounting in Columbus must be in trouble if you’re calling a geologist for advice,” Ross laughed.

“That will be the day,” Ben replied. “How are you?”

“I’m good. I had a trip to Indonesia last month. The scene of the crime.”

Ben had heard the whole story from Ross about the shootout with the jihadis.

“Everything OK?”

“Yeah, I was good. How are you and Lacy doing?”

“We’re good… eh… So, hey, listen, I need to talk to you about something.”

“Ben, do you guys need money? How much?”

“What! No man, we don’t need money.”

“OK then what?”

“You may want to sit down for this.”

“Dude, You’re scaring me.”

“It’s not scary, well… ehh…”

“Ben…”

“OK, OK… so about a year or so ago, longer maybe, Lacy and I were messing around in bed and….”

“Did she peg you? Oh, you nasty man,” Ross laughed at his own joke.

“Are you done?”

“Yeah, I am. Go ahead.”

“Just shut up and listen. So, Lacy and I played the hall pass game. Dead celebrities first, then living, and then one person in real life each.”

“Oh, this I have to hear. What were your guy’s choices?”

“Markus Antonius of Rome…”

“You wanted to fuck a Roman guy?”

“Christ, you’re such an ass, Ross.”

“Yeah, but you love me in a non-gay way. OK, OK, go on, tell me your hall pass story. I’m intrigued. Which dead chick did you pick?”

“Hedy Lamar.”

“The actress/inventor, Good choice? Do go on.”

“The rest doesn’t matter. But this does. I already had my hall pass.”

“You guys actually went through bursa escort bayan with it? Man, that’s fuck talk in bed talk. You’re not supposed to do it.”

“Well, it happened. And I owe Lacy a hall pass.”

“Good luck with that.”

“Yeah… thanks. But this is where you come in.”

“What!”

“Lacy picked you.”

“Uh… what?”

“You heard me.”

“Ben, buddy, I’m flattered. But what…I mean what… Wow! I’m at a loss for words.”

“That’s a first. Does this happen to you often, genius?”

“Lacy is your wife, a friend. She’s your wife, Ben!”

“Are you done?”

“Yeah, sorry. But again, why are you calling?”

“You know why I’m calling. Lacy wants to make sure I’m Ok with it. So to prove it to her, she made me call you to let you know I’m OK with it.”

“And you are. OK with it?”

“I called you and told you, didn’t I?”

“That you did.” Ross replied in disbelief.

“OK, so now you call Lacy and tell her that I called you.”

“Ben. Are you serious about this?”

“Look Ross. I already collected on my hall pass with someone I picked. Lacy went along with it. How do I say no to her? If I did that, she would think I’m a welcher and a hypocrite. And one more thing. I know who you are and that you will not abuse her or mess with her head. Right?”

“Ben. I still need to think about this. “

“Oh, shut up. You used to eyeball Lacy when we ran around in college and still do each time we get together. You even felt her up on the dance floor.”

“We danced close, but I didn’t feel her up.”

“Just call her Ross. And I don’t want to know the details. But if you hurt her in any way, I’ll cut your balls off.”

“I would never hurt Lacy. You know that.”

“Then call her. You have her number. And Ross, if you do go through with this, have her come to you. Don’t do it here, got me?”

“I don’t know if I could do what you are doing, Ben.” Ross managed to say.

“Ross. Do you still have PTS?”

There was silence again until Ben heard Ross reply. He already had his answer.

“You know I do.”

“Well, I had it bad. PTS and some other issues that we don’t need to go into. But I was a mess — sleepwalking through life. Lacy saw that and made sure my hall pass happened. She did that out of love, Ross. To help me get my confidence up. Love Ross. If you love someone, you will do just about anything for them, which is what Lacy did. After that, I realized that I was married to someone better than me. Now, do you understand?”

“Lacy is special all right. You are a lucky man.”

“I know. Now call her. See you when I see you.”

And before they said anything more, Ben clicked the phone off.

***

“Jesus Christ!” Ross said as he stared at his phone. “Jesus Christ.”

***

A week later, Lacy had not heard from Ross and went to Ben, who was on the laptop in the kitchen — drinking coffee. She poured herself a cup and sat across from him.

“Did you call Ross?” she asked.

Ben sighed and closed the laptop before he nodded.

“I gather he hasn’t contacted you?”

Lacy shook her head.

“When did you call him?”

“I see,” she replied and stared ahead with no facial response.

“Are you OK?” Ben asked.

Lacy nodded quietly again.

“Thanks for letting me know. I’ll call Ross myself. Love you.”

“I love you too.”

“I know you do, Ben. Do you know that I love you?”

“More than ever, Lace.”

Lacy stood, leaned over to kiss her husband, and left the room. Five minutes later, she came back dressed in her running outfit.

“I’m going for a walk and call Ross. Are we OK?”

“More than ever.”

She gave her husband another kiss on the cheek. Then Lacy walked out of the house with her phone and headphones in her hand. Her mind was a jumble of emotions.

There was a park not far from their modest home with benches under trees. It would be a quiet place to make the call, she thought. Lacy had decided to honor Ben’s request and not flaunt her coming tryst with Ross in front of him. Ben was not like her. While she had loved watching and participating in his hall pass with Cheryl, her husband did not want to see or be part of an MFM threesome.

It had taken Lacy quite some time to grasp the notion that their hall pass pact was not just sex talk. And when it had happened between Cheryl and Ben, she was surprised that it had not made her feel jealous or hurt. If anything, Ben had been more attentive since then and had focused on sorting out his life.

Did she want sex with someone else? Was her sex life with Ben lacking? The answer was typical of most married people. Yes, I love my spouse, but the sex is not what it could be. The stress of everyday married life can take its toll. And as a sage once said, you can’t have steak every day. You occasionally need some fish or chicken to break the monotony. Lacy was not escort bursa sure if Ross would be the steak or chicken. But she was ready for a different meal, that’s for sure.

Lacy knew that Ben trusted and loved his best friend in a way most people would never understand. It had taken her quite some time to grasp the nature of the men’s relationship. But then, she had not fought for her life with a friend and lived as they had. Not only that, but the two guys genuinely liked each other. Lacy liked them both and even loved Ross as a close friend, but she was only in love with Ben. Even if she found that she enjoyed sex with Ross more, she would never leave Ben.

The question was, why had Ross not called her? There was only one way to find out. Locating Ross’s number in her phone contacts, she stared at it for a while. Then she scoffed at herself for her last-minute jitters and pressed the call button. After four rings, Ross answered.

“Hi Lacy.”

“Hi yourself. Why haven’t you called?”

“Straight and to the point. Aren’t you.”

“Ben said he called you a week ago. Did you two discuss anything important?”

“Yes we did, Lacy. I’m just trying to wrap my head around it. You guys are my best friends.”

“Ross, stop treating me like your sister. You didn’t back in the day in college.”

He didn’t need to be reminded how close they had danced and how good her body felt on his.

“Lacy, are you sure about this? I love both of you guys and don’t want to cause you any trouble.”

“Don’t you worry about our marriage, Ross. Ben already had a hall pass with a woman we both know, and I participated and watched,” she said, not letting Ross know that the woman had been his ex-wife. “If anything, things have been better between us since.”

“Wow!”

“Oh please, Ross,” Lacy sneered. “You jump from woman to woman without a thought.”

“You are not one of those women, Lacy.”

“Why? Are you planning to date me and get me a ring?”

“Hardly. You are Ben’s girl.”

“I am Ben’s wife and woman. And if we do this, when our time together is done, I’ll go home — no differently than the women you have. It’s all I want, Ross. Don’t put me on a pedestal.”

“OK, I understand. So we’re friends with benefits?”

“Exactly. So when are you available this coming month?”

“Anytime but the third week of the month. I have to fly to Houston than for meetings.”

“So are we on?” she asked.

“I can’t believe I’m saying yes, but yes.”

“Good. Stay in touch with me. Texting is easier when I’m around Ben. He doesn’t want to be part of it or know the details other than itinerary and destination.”

“You guys are something else.”

“So are you, Ross. Please don’t make me say this. OK?”

“I promise to behave like a perfect gentleman.”

“See, that’s what I was worried about. Look, Ross, if you are going to do the kid-glove thing, I’ll find myself a different guy for my hall pass.”

“No. Don’t do that. Believe it or not, Lacy, I’ve had fantasies about you.”

“Good. Then bring your A-game when we get together. Hey Ross, I have to go. Stay in touch.”

***

Lacy was home in ten minutes and went straight to Ben.

“How did it go?” her husband asked.

She sat on his lap, placing her arms around him.

“I didn’t feel this nervous when you and Cheryl hooked up.”

“So I gather you called him. Is it on?”

“Yes, we talked. We’re going to coordinate schedules. Probably the fourth week of the month. We’ll see.”

A thought came to Lacy’s mind just then. But she wanted to think about it more.

Ben hugged her and smiled nervously. It was surreal. They were discussing Lacy flying off to have a sex vacation with another man. Surreal was an understatement.

“Call Cheryl. I want us to talk to her, Ben.”

Ben looked at her, not sure where this was going.

“About?” he asked.

Lacy picked up her phone and dialed Chery’s number. Ben just smiled nervously.

“Hi Lacy. How are you guys?”

“Good. You?”

“I’m good. I missed you guys.”

“We missed you too. Ben is here too.”

“Hi stud,” she chided him.

“I feel so used,” Ben feigned indignation.

“That will be the day,” Lacy interjected with a giggle.

“So what’s up?.”

“Well, you know how you are Ben’s hall pass woman?”

“Yeah, go on.”

“Well,” Lacy continued. “At the end of the month, I get my turn with some stud of my own.”

“Lucky you. Anyone, I know?”

“Don’t be nosey, Cheryl. But I wondered if you would be available for my hubby that week? Maybe you two can go on a week-long vay-cay.”

Ben was surprised at his wife’s offer.

“I’m available now, you hussy. All this talk of sex has me worked up. When is this week I’m supposed to husband-sit.”

“Nice pun Cheryl. Probably the end of the month.”

“I’m not looking at a gift horse or anything,” Ben asked. “But why am I getting another hall pass?”

“Because my dear husband, I’m not one of those hotwife women who go slutting around and leave their husband home to beat off. My man has to have a hussy with pussy of her own during that time. What do you say Cheryl? The position is open.”

“Lacy, I would do your man anytime you let me.”
